[OTDV] Glitch 08/08

08.08.12

Glitch is tonight, and there is nothing ordinary about it. Tonight we will start with Dez Thrill, rapping live. Then DJ Klown is going to throw down some moombahton before D4D and I make real the triumphant return of Manifest Destiny. We will start partying at 9:00, the music will start around 9:45. No cover all night, Air Conditioned Lounge 4673 30th Street San Diego, CA 92116. I have taken the liberty of compiling a sampling of the tracks I will be dropping tonight, for your listening pleasure. Enjoy, and make it your business to party tonight.

Autoerotique – EKG

ZZT – Partys Over Los Angeles (Paul Chambers Remix)

Digitalism v. Tommy Trash – Falling (Digitalism Version)

Boris Dlugosch – Cycle (Etienne de Crecy’s Electronic Jail Remix)

Hey Today! – Strange (Boris Dlugosch Remix)

Zombie Zombie – Rocket #9 (Gesaffelstein Remix)

Calvin Harris – Awooga

Play them really loud and I will play them louder at the Air Conditioned Lounge tonight!

Salut,

What follows are download links to three tracks. They are all suspenseful and/or quite dancy. The first is really techno-ey…but I think it is reasonably endearing if you like bleep bloops. The second is the kind of ridiculous rave track you would expect from Afrojack, though it’s polished nicely. The last one has a bass synth I really like.

Jimmy Edgar – Black Neon Dance Floor

Afrojack – Rock The House

Phunk Investigation & Schumacher – Critical

AWOL

03.29.12

I have been irregular in my posting, and I apologize. Getting the new EP all wrapped up is proving to be tedious business. I am able to find time to find some new music here and there though, so here are a few things I’m listening to.

—-

First, I want to start off with this Felix Cartal track, because I feel his material has really declined in the past couple years, but this song stands out on his new album as quite above the tracks alongside it.

Felix Cartal – Domo

It’s loud, crazy, has a weird melodic buildup and then it gets you with a drop thats all in the mids. Good stuff, a real floor burner.

—-

Next is a song that sound like a song I put in a mix a couple months ago, but alas, it is not that song…

Jay Lumen – Drop That

This is one of those songs that gets played ‘somewhere in the middle’ of a DJ set. It doesn’t get up in your face and bend you to its will, but subtly suggests that, maybe you two start a dialogue and see where it goes. (It usually goes to dancing)

My last recommendation for the week rounds out the selections quite nicely, I think. This is why I chose to put it last.

Andhim – Walkmen

This shit is OUTRAGEOUSLY CHILL. Seriously. That is probably how you will describe it to someone after you listen to it. It is crunchy, and possessive of a dangerously catchy groove. I don’t think anyone could be serious while listening to this song.

—-

So listen to those and I’ll tell you to listen to something else next week.

Leap Year

02.29.12

Happy Leap Day, Internet.

First, I’ve been hesitant toward Brodinski’s newest tracks because they seem like he has been sacrificing danciness for artsyness, rather than finding the perfect balance. In this remix though, it seems he has found a balance.

Off The Wall (Brodinski Remix)

It’s very stabby. Does a lot of building up and then he drops instruments out to surprise you, all while changing the timbre of the synths. Good stuff.

Next one is epic.

Pachanga Boys – Time

It is bold to make a 15 minute dance song, but this one is presented quite well. An excellent driving song, or to give everyone at the club a break from the craziness, it changes throughout so has a part that can fit in just about any setting.

And lastly:

Tensnake – Need Your Lovin (Tiger & Woods remix)

Pure disco goodness. I have listened to this twice today already, and it is 11:32AM at the time of this writing. I think that says enough.

Enjoy those tracks, and get ready for a special post next week.
