Good things come to those who wait, and this new mix of mine s a perfect example of that otherwise outdated proverb. Seriously, I surprised myself when I listened back to it. I think you guys are really going to enjoy it. A little late for Valentines Day, but I’m sure theres room for a party on other days. In fact, I know of a little something going on at El Dorado tonight.

Little bit of forgotten In Flagranti love, one of those crossover nu-disco acts that eased me in from the electro days of old. I’d seen In Flagranti in random mixtapes and kitsune compilations before, but they never quite caught my eye until Erol Alkan applied his patented Simple But Effective Disco 3000 editing skills to their track Brash & Vulgar. He didn’t even really change much, he just added some loops and extended it a bit to make it more friendly to his dj sets. In Flagranti have many other well known gems, these are just some of the less known. Look them up and you’ll discover a whole world of kitschy electro-funk.
For my second post here I will be sharing an exclusive mix fresh out of the disco oven, my disco oven in fact. With this week seeing official releases of Breakbot’s ‘Fantasy’, Peter & The Magician’s ‘Twist’, Tensnake’s ‘Something About You’, Metronomy’s ‘The Bay’, and The Supermen Lovers’ ‘Keep the Funk Alive’ the timing just seemed ripe for a mixtape of all the feel good hits of summer 2011.
First a little overview on the tracks, fist off we have Breakbot with his latest hit Fantasy. Jacques Renault of “Beam Me Up, Beam Me Up’ remixing fame works his disco edit magic again and comes out with a solid piece of work. I know I’ll have this track stuck in my head all summer and when I look back on the good ol’ days I’ll think of 2010′s Baby I’m yours and now 2011′s Fantasy.
Next up is Twist by Peter & The Magician. You know what? I’m glad Aeroplane split up. There.
The reason I say that is because The Magician is the guy that left Aeroplane, and Peter is Yuksek (who also has a new album out). I like this combo a lot more and can see them going places, like into my mixtapes.
Track 3 is by The Supermen Lovers. To tell you the truth I had no idea who these guys were a couple days ago but I saw an In Flagranti Remix on their new EP, The Foundation Disco. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the original tracks so keep these guys on your disco radar.

Oliver $ surprised me with this track. Doin ya thang is pretty much like nothing else coming out right now. I’m not even sure what kind of genre it is, its a simple song with a simple concept that never gets old. I absolutely love it and have only had the pleasure of playing it out twice but I do implore any other DJs to try this track out in a set and see how it does.
The Bay by Metronomy is a great song but then Erol gets his dirty little hands on it, strips it of its glitteryness and creates another simple yet effective masterpiece. I’ve had this song on repeat for the last week now…
Siriusmo just released a 42 track package called Pearls & Emberrasements featuring all of his previously released original material and a couple of unreleased tracks he found in the depths of his german hard drive. This track ‘Last Dear’ is on it along with a couple bangers like ‘Hello DJ’. The entire album is available to stream off Modeselektors’ Soundcloud
K.I.D. – Don’t Stop is actually one of the source samples from Alan Braxe’s hit ‘Most Wanted’. I love the Braxe version but the original is just full of funk, funk perfectly suited for this mix.
Tensnake just came out with a new EP but what I found more interesting is that Jas Shaw, who is half of Simian Mobile Disco is now releasing under his own name. What could this mean? Are they splitting up? Will we see some solo releases by the other Simian Guy? Only time will tell but for now we have an incredible 90s-House-Revival track to chew on.
So that’s my whole spiel, I just wanted to give a little bit of insight as to why these tracks are on here. I hope we all learned something today and I hope you come back for next years edition of ‘Feel Good Hits of The Summer’
